Here are my finished mini floral mosaics. I was thrilled with the kit materials and must admit that when I saw the many rhinestones, I thought – whatever will I do with ALL those? Well, I used the vast majority of them. I am pleased with the colors, textures, vase paper selection -WOW! And am eager to get my hands on some other glass vase…

Love these! Especially the one with blue vase and purple frame – you nailed it! 🤩

Jen, thank you for this feedback on the materials! It’s so helpful to hear! 🙂

Oh my goodness, i have fussed with painting these frames all weekend! I am not a neat painter, brush strokes are visible, paint drips, even lost a bristle from the paintbrush. Wanting to get to the “main event”, putting the bits and baubles in. Next time, i will ask my husband to do the painting for me. He is much neater than i am. “Sigh”

Do you mind me asking what kind of paint you are using?

I used Kilz to prime, then Annie Sloan chalk paint. I also experimented with Annie Sloan’s pearlescent glaze over the paint. I thought the colors I had chosen were too bright and would take away from the mosaic. Then I used Jolie Gilding wax in gold for an easier alternative to gold leaf.

The pink is what I used the gold wax on. It does not show up well in the picture. The teal/blue is what the pearlescent glaze is on

Haha! I fussed a lot with the paint, too, and then ended up repainting both frames after the mosaics were finished. I think your frames look great!! Now you’re ready for the fun stuff!

Wanda, I love the colors you are using and the gold guilding wax sounds beautiful! In future, you could try skipping the primer (it’s not required with Annie Sloane) and see if that helps. I also layered it on with thin coats and even added a touch of water to my brush if it was going on too heavy and thick. I did need a few layers. Painting…

Hi, Sharra:
I finished my first mini floral and i am pleased overall, but distressed over my rananculus. I was fine with it until i grouted it. After grouting i feel it is just dull. My first grout was too light. I went over it with blacker grout. (I see a spot at 3 ‘oclock that shows lighter grout. I may cover that.
What could i have done…

I think it’s pretty! I am usually my own worst critic. Try walking away from it for a day or two and then see how you feel about it.

Oh my – it’s just lovely! I love the pops of red and I think the porcelain flower looks great!

Audra, first, the whole piece is beautiful, well done! Those specific porcelain tile colors do tend to be more muted and dulled after grouting. There may be a bit of “grout haze” clinging on to the porcelain, try scrubbing them a bit with white vinegar (just the tiles, not the grout). You could also try cleaning them with the Aves Studio… Read more

I stopped into JoAnn’s yesterday to see what was left and picked up a few flowers for future picassiaste projects. Roses on the left are plastic and I may add paint to them if the experiment works. Strands in the middle are heavy metal. Flowers on the right are plastic or lucite, maybe. The store was really picked over. So sad. I’m going to…

Excellent finds, Cindy! These beads will be so versatile and handy for many projects! It is so sad to lose JoAnn’s. Hopefully we will see another company stepping into the demand for quality craft supplies.

Hi Sharra:
1. Have you added the clear glass vases to the shop?
2. Are you able to add a link to the Silberschnitt wheeled nippers? If they are sold through a mosaic dealer, I’d prefer to spend my money there 😊
Thank you!
-
Hi Robin! I just received a tile order (the trendy French porcelain 2×2’s that are really popular right now!) so I’ll have all these new items added after the weekend. The Silberschnitts are linked in my Amazon shop at $120, I did see them on the Delphi Glass site I believe but the price difference was significant, $20-40 more. If you find…

I just had to post this! I finally finished her! This was quite the learning curve for me as I had to redo the ceramic flower 3 times! And the one that is visible is actually ON TOP of one that I’d already glued down and grouted (the first one looked terrible!). I really struggled with cutting the ceramic tile in the right shapes, I guess…
-
I’m scared to start for the same reasons! What if!?! Third time is a charm, right? It looks beautiful!

Elizabeth, we are our own worst critic. Your flower looks good. I understand what you are saying because I am having the same problem.

Elizabeth- well done! It makes me smile, too!! What a creative solution to redo your porcelain flower on top of the one before- truly! It is so charming and I LOVE the paper you paired with the background pattern! Thank you for sharing! 🙂
